MEDICINE AUTOGRAPHS

The practice of medicine, physic or healing is a craft known throughout the ages.  The foundations of medicine as a real branch of science were laid by the ancient Greeks, Hippocrates and Galen and over the next two thousand years the science of medicine advanced, albeit with some peaks and troughs.  During its history there have been many charlatans and quacks but there have also been men and women of genius, who have made real breakthroughs that have been of lasting benefit to mankind. One of the high points in medical development came in the 19th century, with the establishment of proper teaching hospitals, better clinical procedures and a number of important breakthroughs which identified the causes of many of the common killer diseases. The men leading this enlightenment became popular celebrities to the Victorians. They became rich and had honours and titles heaped upon them and AUTOGRAPHS in this specialist field have always been in demand and collected.
