Muirtagh-Murdoch.   "Thank you so much for sending the music - I am very glad to have it. Best wishes," etc.   Approx 4.5 x 3.5 inches. Very good.   Sir Malcolm Sargent (Harold Malcolm Watts Sargent) is generally regarded as the greatest British conductor of choral works. He was the co-founder of the London Philharmonic Orchestra but is probably best remembered as the conductor, for many years, of the Henry Wood Promenade.....

CLARA SCHUMANN Autograph Letter Signed. German musician and composer. Wife of Robert Schumann. Nee Clara Josephine Wieck.   ALS, 3pp on notepaper embossed with the monogram of Clara Schumann, together with original envelope. Dusseldorf. 5th March 1857. To Dr Theodor Topken at Bremen.   Text of the letter is in German and, due to the somewhat florid style of Clara Schumann's handwriting, we have only succeeded in a partial translation. Clara Schumann writes to Theodor Topken thanking him for his suggestion or recommendation concerning a piano. She says that, sadly she does not like this and gives her reasons for this. She goes.....

Signed "John Philip Sousa 1903".   9 x 6 cms (3.75 x 2.5 inches). On white card. Very light mounting traces to verso. Fine.   Provenance:  From an album compiled by Florence Pearl Faithfull (known as "Pearl"), later Lady Dilke.  Pearl Faithfull was the daughter of H.M Faithfull, solicitor of Sydney, New South Wales and the grand-daughter of the Australian pioneer and politician William Pitt Faithfull.  In 1915 she.....

Approx 5.5 x 4 inches (14 x 10 cms).  In fine condition. An attractive portrait, showing Toscanini seated at his piano. Although he began his career as a cellist, Arturo Toscanini went on to become one of the greatest conductors of all time.  Amongst his many accomplishments can be counted the world premieres of several of the great operas, including La Boheme and Turendot.  He also conducted the world premiere of Samuel Barber's most.....
