SIR WILLIAM JARDINE Two Autograph Notes Signed on Publisher's Pamphlets. British (Scottish) naturalist, ornithologist and author.   Two single-sheet pamphlets giving advance notice of new publications by Sir William Jardine. The first is annotated in his hand "Mr Hammond's name as a subscriber will oblige" and the second is annotated in his hand "Parts 1 to 6 for 1850 are ready. Mr Hammond's name as a subscriber will oblige". Both are signed by Jardine. The pamphlets are publisher's 'flyers' advertising his forthcoming 'The Ichnology of Annandale' (1850) and 'Contributions to Ornithology' (1849-50).   Each pamphlet measures approx. 8.75 x 5.5 inches. HENTY Autograph Letter Signed English author of boys' adventure stories and war correspondent.   ALS.  3pp.  23 St. Ann's Villas, Royal Crescent, Notting Hill.  June 12th [no year but 1871].  To William Woodall.  A fine letter with superb content reflecting Henty's right-wing political views, written following his return from Paris after reporting on the crushing of the Paris Commune.  Together with a contemporary carte de visite portrait photograph of Henty.   "My Dear Sir, My order for release came as I hoped it would upon the morning after you left Paris. JOHN PHILIP SOUSA Autograph Musical Quotation SIGNED. American composer and conductor, best known for his marches, such as 'Liberty Bell' and 'The Washington Post'.  Known as 'The March King'. He was also the inventor of the sousaphone.   Autograph musical quotation 3 bars from "Hands Accross the Sea", signed with full name and with title and date June 1903 in his hand.  The quotation is on the head of a programme for a "Grand Concert - Sousa and his Band".   On folded card (approx 10 x 6 inches) with engraved and embossed front with an engraved portrait of John Philip.....

With good full signature.   8vo.  Approx 7 x 4.5 inches.  Fine.   The letter is probably to the publishers, Chapman & Hall.  Augustus John wrote the introduction.....

URBAIN LE VERRIER Autograph Signature. French celestial mathematician who accurately predicted the existence of the planet Neptune.   Autograph signature on membership card for the Association Scientifique de France. November 1866.  The card, which appears to have been filled out entirely in the hand of Le Verrier, grants associate membership of the Association to Miss Anna Blackwell and is signed by Le Verrier as president.   Approx 4 x 6.25 inches. Three horizontal creases and some old mounting damage to verso. Good.   Urbain Le Verrier is credited with the discovery of Neptune after he accurately predicted its existence to.....
