THE TICHBORNE CLAIMANT Codicil to his will, signed. Roger Charles Doughty Tichborne aka Arthur Orton aka Thomas Castro (known as "the Tichborne Claimant").   The Codicil to the will of Roger Charles Doughty Tichborne. Dated 13th May 1868. 3pp. Signed by Roger Tichborne and also initialled by him three times in the margins.   In this codicil, Roger Tichborne revokes certain bequests and appointments previously made in his will in favour of his former solicitor John Holmes and trustees Joseph Leete and Francis Baigent. He substitutes other bequests and appointments in favour of John Holmes and his friends Francis Lushington.....

FIELD-MARSHAL DOUGLAS HAIG Portrait Signed. British soldier and Field Marshal. Commander of the British Expeditionary Force in WW1.   Offset-litho photographic portrait of Douglas Haig, mounted on post-card with autograph signature on mount below image.  The signed portrait shows Haig half-length in Field Marshal's uniform. The post-card is addressed on the verso to Mrs Rickinson, Gainford.   Approx 5.5 x 3.5 inches. Fine.   Douglas Haig commanded the BEF from 1916 to the end of the war in 1918. He was an extremely able and accomplished General but history will remember him as the man who commanded in the Battle.....

  ROBERT BURNS Autograph Manuscript.   Scottish Poet.    Manuscript entirely in the hand of Robert Burns, being part of a glossary of Scottish dialect words.   The irregularly shaped paper piece, measuring approx. 5.75 x 2.25 inches (15 x 6 cms), is of stout, laid paper commonly used by lawyers or government offices and is probably Customs and Excise paper, which was often used by Robert Burns.  The dialect words are not listed in alphabetical order but all begin with the LETTER C and each has an English translation adjacent to it.  Words include Crankous, crannie, caddie, claik, etc.  8.....

English polar explorer.   Autograph signature on paper piece, dated in his hand Nov. 1904.   The paper piece measures approx 5.5 x 4 inches.  It is tipped onto an album leaf with a contemporary newscutting relating to the expedition by the 'Terra Nova' for the relief of the 'Discovery' in 1904 when Scott's ship had been trapped by ice in McMurdo Bay.   Central crease where originally folded and slight browning from offsetting, else fine.   From the album of a Ms. Knowles, who was a charitable fund-raiser and the wife of a prominent.....
