SIR HENRY MORTON STANLEY Photograph Signed. British (Welsh) African explorer and journalist. Noted for his expedition in search of Dr Livingstone and for the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition.   Photograph mounted on card and signed on mount below photograph "Yours very faithfully, Henry M. Stanley. Bleak House, Burslem. May 30th 1891."   The portrait is a fine 19th century gelatin silver print photograph showing Henry Morton Stanley half-length, seated and turning, rather stiffly, to face the camera. It measures approx. 5.5 x 4 inches excluding mount and approx. 9.5 x 7.5 inches including mount.   The card mount is taken.....

JAPANESE MISSION TO EUROPE 1862 Signatures & Photographs. Takenouchi Shimodzukino Kami, Envoy and Plenipotentiary to H.M. the Tycoon of Japan and other members of the Japanese Mission.   Paper with calligraphic signatures (of three persons?) in Japanese script, with printed paper slip attached, partly in Japanese and partly in English "Take No Ouchi Shimodzukino Kami envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of H.M. the Tycoon of Japan."  Together with two rare carte de visite photographs showing members of the first Japanese Mission to Europe, which took place in 1862.   The SIGNATURE (or signatures) are on a paper piece measuring approx 4.74 x.....

To Miss [Anna] Blackwell.   An interesting letter in which Augustus De Morgan talks about (and ridicules) some recent designs for flying machines and speculates on whether heavier than air manned flight will ever be achieved. Together with a fine contemporary carte de visite portrait photograph.   "Is your sister still with you and Mr Sandford, and would they accept tickets for the R[oyal] Academy soiree on the 30th?  If you let me kindly know I will take measures."   8vo. Approx 6.25 x 4.5 inches. Laid down by corners to album leaf. Near fine.  The carte de visite portrait is an albumen.....

To Lewis Bey at  'A' Station.   The first 9 lines of the dispatch have been censored with black ink but the remainder reads "and instruct the latter to make every enquiry as to the truth or otherwise of this report by sending spies in the direction and obtaining information from natives.  It is essential that I should know with the least possible delay what the Khalifa's movements are and you should instruct Dorain to send me immediate news by Camel.....

OKO JUMBO Autograph Signature. De Facto ruler of the African kingdom of Bonny.   Autograph signature on paper piece from foot of an ALS, with the subscription "Kind regards, yours truly" in another hand. Laid down on part of an old album leaf with provenance "the signature of Oko Jumbo Chief of Bonny".   The blue paper piece bearing the signature of Oko Jumbo measures approx 4.75 x 2 inches. It has some edge chipping and mounting remnants to verso but is otherwise in very good condition.   Bonny or Bonny Town was an independent trading state on the Niger.....

To W[ilia]m Parker Hammond Jun[io]r.   "In reply to your request for an autograph I send you one on the other side and remain your obedient servant" [etc].  On a separate leaf is a 6 line autograph mathematical formula or calculation, signed in full by De Morgan.   8vo. Approx 7 x 4.5 inches. The two pages of the letter have been separated so as to display both in an album, but without any loss to either leaf. .....

GEORGE, DUKE OF KENT Photograph SIGNED. Prince George Edward Alexander Edmund, son of George V and brother of George VI and Edward VIII.   Photograph, signed and dated "George, 1938". Contained within a Christmas card which is inscribed in his hand "For Xmas & 1939" below the printed greeting "With all best wishes".  The card, bound with chord and red ribbon, bears his printed monogram on cover and the address, 3 Belgrave Square. It shows the handsome 36 year old Prince half length, in lounge suit, facing the camera, with arms folded.  The photographer was Hugh Cecil, London and his.....
