Description
ADA CROSSLEY Autograph Letter Signed.
Australian contralto singer.
ALS (the last leaf of a longer letter). No place, no date. [To the baritone singer Kennerley Rumford].
"Give my love to Mrs Rumford. I hope she is keeping fairly well. Yours very sincerely, Ada J. Crossley".
Paper piece being part of the last leaf of a letter. Approx 4.5 x 4.5 inches. Remains of old mounting hinge on verso. Very good.
Ada Crossley came to Europe after making a sensational debut in Melbourne. She quickly became one of the most popular singers of her generation and gave five command performances before Queen Victoria in the space of only two years. Ada Crossley made several world tours and also achieved success in America. "Mrs Rumford" is the singer Clara Butt and, from the evidence of letters we have from the same source, it is likely that this was a Letter written to her husband, Kennerley Rumford shortly after the birth of his and Clara's daughter.
