Description
ALPHONSE MUCHA Autograph SIGNATURE.
Czechoslovakian painter and illustrator, one of the principal figures of Art Nouveau.
Autograph signature on mount below a vintage photographic reproduction of one of his photographs, showing a nude young lady in woodland setting (6 x 4.5 inches, 15 x 11.5 cms) and also signed with full signature on verso. The photograph is mounted on passepartout (approx 13 x 10 inches, 33 x 26 cms) bearing the small printed stamp of Sbirka Dra Cerovskeho in lower left corner of recto and with their rubber stamp impressed on verso with pencil certification.
A few foxing marks to edges of mount and vero (not touching signatures or image), else fine.
The photograph, which was taken by Alphonse Mucha (Alfons Mucha) circa 1910, appears to have been reproduced for this series of prints in the 1920s or 1930s for Sbirka Dra Cerovkeho, Prague, the remaining stock of which was apparently disposed of by his son, Jiri Mucha (1915-1991), in or around April 1990.
