"We are off today, as the weather seems tolerably quiet. I send three books for your girls, as 'souvenirs'. The eldest can choose first and then the two next according to seniority - or, the whole can draw lots - or, they can settle in any other way they like. Only, I bargain that they all agree to love me very much, as I love them. With best regards from us both to you all and to your absent hubby(?). Sincerely, Vicat Cole."
Large 8vo bifolium. 21 x 13 cms. (8.25 x 5.25 inches). In fine condition.
Provenance: From the 19th century album compiled by the family of Dr James Copland F.R.S. (1791-1880), the noted Scottish physician and writer on medicine.
