British novelist, traveller and historian.

ALS.  1p.  No place, no date.  To "My dear Mrs. White".  Together with a steel engraved portrait.

"I left my fan last night after your most pleasant party, either on the back supper-room table, or in the cloak-room.  I am now just going to dress for the opera - having no other fan! - May I ask you to be kind enough to let your servant give it to the bearer? And will you believe me to be very affectionately (in a hurricane of haste) ever yours, Julia Pardoe".

12mo.  Approx  15 x 10 cms.  Corners clipped but not affecting text. Mounting traces to corners of verso. Good.

Julia Pardoe was an extremely gifted writer who found popular and critical success in a number of different genres.  She was much admired by Elizabeth Barrett Browning and others.  Described as a "fairy-footed, fair-haired, laughing sunny girl", she is said to have had a horror of aging and to have continued her girlish traits into her middle age.  She died, unmarried, at the age of 58.
