British naturalist, marine biologist and inventor of the sea-water aquarium. Father of the writer, Edmund Gosse, whose best known work, 'Father and Son', tells of their tempestuous relationship.

8vo. Approx 7 x 4.5 inches. Pinholes at top left corner. Previously tipped into an album and with fragment of the album leaf attached to verso with some old glue spots and localised brittleness. One hole near right margin which does not touch the text.
Adams' book "Humming Birds, Described and Illustrated" had been published by Groombridge in 1856.
