Consort of Price Arthur of Connaught, daughter of Princess Louise of Wales and the 1st Duke of Fife. Grand-daughter of Queen Victoria and born fifth in line to the British throne. Professional nurse.
Photograph, SIGNED on mount "With best wishes for Xmas & 1928, from Alexandra".
Alexandra is shown full length with her only child, Alastair. Both in highland dress in an outdoor setting.
Approx 16 x 11 cms (including mount). Very good.
Alexandra and her sister were unique amongst the British royal princesses as they had direct lineage from both William IV and Queen Victoria. Alexandra worked as a nurse in WW1 and continued to do so after the armistice. Whilst working in London hospitals she was known incognito as "Nurse Marjory". In WW2 she was sister in charge of the casualty clearing hospital in London, a post she occupied throughout the Blitz. Her only child, Alastair, shown in this photograph, died unexpectedly whilst in Canada in 1943.
