SIR HENRY IRVING Autograph Letter Signed.

British actor. The first actor to be knighted.

ALS. 1p. 15a Crafton Street, Bond Street, W. (A short note with no addressee and no date. The note appears to be complete in itself but might possibly be part of a longer communication).

"God bless you old friend! We shall soon meet I hope."

12mo. Approx 6 x 4 inches. Lacking integral blank leaf and with remains of paper backing and mounting residue to blank verso. Some browning to recto. Good.

Sir Henry Irving was the most celebrated actor of his generation and he remained an inspirational figure to subsequent generations of actors. Bram Stoker was his secretary and amanuensis and Irving is thought to have been the model for Stoker's character, Dracula. Although the recipient of the note is not named, the letter is from a cache of letters, the majority of which were addressed to the singers, Clara Butt and her husband, Kennerley Rumford.
