Sir William Jenner was president of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Royal Society. He was physician in ordinary to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Jenner began his investigations into typhoid fever at the London Fever Hospital in 1847. He discovered the distinction between typhoid and typhus, upon which his reputation as a pathologist was made.
