English painter, known for his portraits. The fourth President of the Royal Academy.
AL. 1p. Russell Square. Thursday morning, 1st October 1829. To "Mr Aston". Together with an engraved portrait of Thomas Lawrence by Thomson after Landseer.
"Sir Thomas Lawrence presents his compliments to Mr Aston, and will have the pleasure to send the portrait of Sir Ralph Woodford to him on Saturday morning."
8vo. 18 x 11 cms (7.25 x 4.5 inches). The bifolium blank leaf excised to a stub previously used for mounting, else fine.
Sir Ralph Woodford was a diplomat and colonial administrator who was appointed as the Governor of Trinidad in 1813.
Provenance: From a 19th century album compiled by the family of Dr James Copland F.R.S. (1791-1870), the noted Scottish physician and writer on medicine.
