WINSTON S. CHURCHILL Signed Photograph.
British Conservative statesman. Twice Prime Minister (1940-45 and 1951-55). He was also a Nobel Prize winning author, soldier, war correspondent and artist.
A fine early signed photograph by J. Russell & Sons, 51 Baker Street, with Churchill's autograph
signature on the mount and dated in his hand, 1921.
Original silver bromide photograph. The image measuring 9 x 11 inches. Total size (including mount) approx. 13.5 x 17.5 inches. Framed and glazed. Some silvering to edges of image, signature a little faded. In fine condition. Difficult to photograph due to the glass of the frame which causes some reflection and glare. Consequently, we have taken several photographs in different light to try and reduce the effects of this.
A nice image of Churchill as a young statesman. In February 1921 LLOYD GEORGE had appointed Churchill as Secretary of State for the Colonies. During this time he was a signatory to the Anglo-Irish Treaty that established the Irish Free State. Although dated 1921 this photograph of Churchill was probably taken the previous year, 1920, as part of the sitting which he did for photographer Edward Russell of J. Russell & Sons. Churchill's autograph is one of the most sought after of all 20th century autographs.
