DANIEL O'CONNELL autograph Envelope Signed.Irish patriot and politician, known as "The Liberator".
Autograph envelope front with free frank, signed. Dated and addressed in his hand "London. August twenty 1835. Samuel Horrocks, Esq., Winckley Square, Preston".
Approx 4.75 x 3.5 inches. Age toned with patchy patina.
Daniel O'Connell led the campaign for the repeal of the Act of Union of Great Britain and Ireland and he was also the leading voice in the movement for Catholic emancipation. Catholic emancipation became law in Britain in 1929 and this enabled Daniel O'Connell to take his seat in Parliament in 1830. George IV is said to have complained that "Daniel O'Connell is the King of Ireland and I am only the Dean of Windsor".
Provenance: From the 19th century album of Emma Marshall of Penwortham Lodge, Preston. Emma was the daughter of William Marshall, land owner and cotton manufacturer.
