BANJO PATERSON autograph Poem Signed. Andrew Barton Paterson (known as Banjo Paterson). Australian bush poet, author and composer.  Best known for the ballad 'Waltzing Matilda'. Autograph verses being the opening lines of his poem 'A Bunch of Roses', signed "A.B. Paterson".   18 x 12 cms (7 x 4.75 inches). Mounted on old pasteboard album leaf. Verso has the signature of the Anglo-Italian marine artist Eduardo de Martino (1838-1912) on H.M.S. Ophir notepaper, dated Sydney, 3rd June 1901 and also the cut signature of Alexander of Teck. SIR WALTER SCOTT Autograph Letter Cover Addressed to Robert Southey. Scottish author and poet. Letter cover signed by Sir Walter Scott and addressed in his hand to Robert Southey, Esq., Keswick.  Together with a 19th century engraved portrait by H.T. Ryall after the original painting by J.P. Knight.   The address panel excised and laid down on piece of old manuscript measures 11 x 7.5 cms (4.5 x 3 inches).  The engraving measures 23 x 18 cms (9 x 7.25 inches). Both in very good condition.   A nice association.  The two poets were friends and frequent correspondents. According to Scott's letters,.....

To the printed text he has added "For associate membership of the Philharmonic Choir as usual £2-2-0.  Don't bother to acknowledge, cheque endorsement will suffice." Signed with initials.
